The power plant for the test car is an ALL ALUMINIUM 351 Twin Turbo with EFI.
The block is an aluminium Ford Racing Performance Parts 4 Bolt main block
(m-6010-Z351). The big plus to going with an aluminium block is weight
savings. Its about an 80 lb weight difference. This is approximately
equivalent to moving the iron engine 6" to the rear wrt to weight distribution.
Which is all important for a road race car. The cons are cost, the block is
about double what you would pay for a good FRPP 4 bolt iron block ($1600 US vs
$2999 US).
The FRPP Extreme
Performance Engine Control (EPEC) from Ford is used to control the fuel and
spark and is configurable via a laptop, includes data logging and programmable
outputs.
West Carleton Automotive is handling the engine build up. Larry, owner of West Carleton Automotive, suggested the crank and rod specs for the stroker. The crank being used has a 3.900 stroke, 6.200 rod length with 2.75 main bearing size. The engine will displace somewhere between 392 to 408 cubic inches depending on bore.
The crank is from RaceParts Distribution and is made by Scat.
Heads are by Edelbrock and are Victor Junior model. It was between these and the Dart (World Castings) Sr. These should need less work than the Darts. These heads shouldn't take too much out of the low end like the Victor Sr would with their huge intake valves.
A Trick Flow 351w EFI
intake was chosen for 2 reasons, the obvious that it was EFI, and for the fact
that it is supposed to have a "straight shot" for cylinders 1 and 5 to help
eliminate the lean condition common with these cylinders with other EFI intakes.
